I am currently reading A History of Modern Britain, by Andrew Marr

It is quite wonderful. A wide-ranging, insightful, and compulsively readable history of the journey of Britain since th Second World War. I know the period tolerably well, but it is still telling me a hell of a lot I didn't know, and which is most interesting. Definitely recommended, even if its close on 600 pages is daunting at first glance.
