In answer to sherod's question, the first night did indeed go pretty well, especially given that it drizzled heavily for most of the first half (outdoor production, y'see).

Smallish house - probably 50-60 - whose patience was tested somewhat by the rain, but most of whom stayed to the end.

And though there were various fluffs, and a prompt or two, nearly all of it got smoothed over without the audience really noticing. Poor old Lenny (longtime stalwart of the Society, and amiable old fart of this parish) forgot two of his four lines, and turned a delightful puce colour, but that's about average (Lenny is a lovely chap, but tricky to act with - some of you may remember my intense whining about his unwitting near-derailment of a show I was in 18 months ago, where he was the lynchpin of the action).

God willing we will have better weather the rest of the run - especially tomorrow, as two readers are braving the Fens to come and see - and it should turn out a really strong show...
Someone has been throwing stones through the windows of the Lady Chapel at Ely Cathedral.

Frankly, I'd like to break their arms. Several times.

Sorry. This isn't someone making a trenchant political point in the most vibrant and accessible medium open to them. This isn't a desperate cry for help from a neglected sector of the population which so much to give.
This is some twat with no respect for anything that isn't themselves.

The Lady Chapel was built in 1322, in the midst of famine and pestilence, from which even the wealthy monks of Ely were not immune. Yet still a thing of great beauty was born.
And today, in this time of peace and relative prosperity, there are people whose idea of a good time is to destroy it.

Two down, two to go. No swords or heads broken yet, although apparently sparks were struck during some of the climactic fight sequences.

Many thanks to clarisinda and papaspoof, who braved a second journey in two days to East Anglia, and the threat of torrential rain, to watch.

Tomorrow there talk of a curry - yippee...

Firsat I have to guide my parents round Norwich without losing them (probably), which will be some feat...
