For the benefit of
sherod and anyone else confused by the term:
"Mook" - vt. Of a public house, to be extensively and unsympathetically redecorated, in advanced stages involving chrome bar-taps, polished wooden benches, and outrageous bar prices.
deriv. coined by
bluedevi and myself, regarding a pub on the corner of Notting Hill Gate and Pembridge Villas, previously called the Devonshire Arms, now called Mook. See http://www.pub-explorer.com/gtlondon/pub/mooklondon.htm , if you dare.
Instances:
Maria: Go take your hand to the Buttery Bar, and let it drink
A Aguecheek: Alas, sweet lady, I cannot, for it has been Mooked, and truly I am no advertising executive.
Maria: Oh bum.
["Twelfth Night"]
"If the Crow's Nest Bistro and Bar ever had life, it was cryogenically frozen now. It was like walking into an icecube - a frost-rimed, snow-white and surgical ice-cube"
["Withnail and I 2 - Legend of Crow Crag's Gold"]
