Advert seen this morning for the Bittania Building Society (apologies if wording slightly askew):

"A FAIRER MORTGAGE MEANS ONLY LENDING YOU WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD"

Now maybe there was some post-ironic cool thing going on here that I missed. But I doubt it.

This is fascinating, really, because it harks back, for the first time in twenty-five years, to the neatly-pressed bank manager steepling his fingers andtelling you he can't give you a loan, but it's for your own good. The idea that someone else has more idea what our financial limits are than we do is a very brave (possibly in the Sir Humphrey sense) advertising tack in these times.

More likely I'm just missing something obvious?
