Feb. 18th, 2009 04:29 pmI was reading something, and it reminded me to go and look for one of my favourite speeches, from The Real Thing, in which the main protagonist (Henry) is considering the purpose of writing plays, with reference to a not very good one.

I agree, and the above elegantly articulates the objection I have to the post-modernist argument that the approbation of some art as "great" is based only on ideological biases, and where you're looking from. I just think some things are more fit for purpose than other things.
