Somebody else's America

The way things are going, we're looking at a President McCain (the most powerful nation in the world ruled by an oven chip...) in 2009, because he isn't going to have to do anything except let the opposition wear itself out shadow-boxing, then screen the best of the loser's negative campaigning under the banner "What (s)he said...".
The idea that the Democrats could fail to win the White House after eight years of Bush should have been inconceivable, but currently it is not only being conceived (by Hillary and Obama screwing each other over - now that would be a news story), but potentially coming to term.
Sigh...

On second thoughts, maybe we get the politicians we deserve, God help us...
