I note with despondency the number of people around me who have been stricken with the Lurgi of Doom. Good-natured if protection-suited hugs go out to you all.

Well, I have once more completed my canter through the beguiling and enchanted world of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. As I've said before, it's not a book for everyone, but if you wish to be taken to a place of wonder, and have the patience for a book which gives up its secrets and glories only at its own pace, then you can do no better. Take an armchair, a decanter of fine spirit and, if available, a roaring fire, and allow yourself to be borne aloft.

The only problem is that, having read the last 200 pages in the last 6 hours, I am now not entirely sure how to return to the world outside the book...
