Jul. 21st, 2005 09:31 pmJust dealing with one of the incidental delights ofn thwe Life Thespianic:
A fun game for you. Try to get a black velvet cloak with a lace-trimmed collar, and a red velvet tunic sort of thing, down Ely High Street past all the Chav Royales, without the benefit of a bag. Fun, fun, fun, I can tell you.
have not spoken that much of the delights of rehearsing the play in here, mainly because I haven't done that much actual rehearsing (given our directors somewhat individual style in these matters).
We're doing Macbeth, and it should be a good show to watch, because:
i) the two leads are superb, and
ii) the fight scenes look really good, and you wouldn't tell from watching them that the swords are totally non-balanced sheet steel, and weigh a ton.
As ever at this stage, there is a certain degree of "oh shit" about proceedings - lines not fully learnt, people missing from rehearsals (I haven't had a gentlewoman for about a fortnight...), and general lunacy. But it is coming together, and if nothing else, the Witches should be terrifying enough for the whole cast. And the grand dame of the Society, Ann Dix, is coming on as Hecate, which is all about half the audience come for...
Still, it'll be a giggle, and it gives me a good excuse to take a fewdays off work...
