Apr. 29th, 2005 07:39 pmGiven the size of my CD collection, it's surprising how rarely I buy CD's at full price on spec, not knowing the artist.
Today, however, I bought "Rough Music", the new album from Eliza Carthy, having read a couple of very complimenatry reviews.
Listening to it at the moment, and can see the point, but suspect it will need a bit more concentrated listening to unpeel. It's basically modern folk, with some other influences, including just a pinch of dissonance (which always takes me a while to get used to).
And I've just realised who her voice reminds me of - Thea Gilmore. The musical style is rather different, but the voices have a lot in common.
The next task is to plan what to do tomorrow, if the weather holds up. Unfortunaely, my options are rather thinned out by the fact that buses replace trains between here and Cam, and between here and Peterborough. Perhaps a trip into the unexplored interior of Norfolk is called for. the most likely effect of which will be remind me why it's unexplored...
