Nov. 19th, 2004

I have managed most of the time to avoid ranting about work in here (God knows I do enough of it to anyone who will listen elsewhere), but today is espcially dispiriting. There are endless piles of things to do, nobody to do them, and the discovery that we simply forgot to do a piece of work for one client which has thus far cost them £400 in penalties and counting, plus interest on the outstanding tax. Just forgot because our team lost most of its experienced staff over a year, there is no time to do any actual management, the boss doesn't give a flying fuck about the down-to-earth aspects of the work, he keeps going out and getting new clients when his portfolio is probably twice as big as we can handle with the staff we've got, and because the firm does not work as a firm and the senior partner is determined to keep everyone divided, nobody can help anybody else out.

Frankly, it's going to take all my will and composure this afternoon not to shut my office door, slam on my earphones, and watch the new Harry Potter DVD all.

This firm is beyond a joke - it's a travesty of good business practice, capable customer service and staff morale maintenance. I am going to stick around until the january deadline is through, but after that I have every intention of disappearing as far as my little legs will carry me.
